hiss when mic is off.
Hi. Okay, I have a Shure BG 4.1 mic and a Tascam US-122L interface. My problem is hiss. Sibilance. Snake impressions. :) I hear it when record monitoring is on, and it's still there when I turn the mic off. And when the mic is off, the hissing gets louder and quieter as I adjust the gain, which my ignorance and I agreed is pretty interesting.

Schoeps, Neumann and MH ULN-8 on pipe organ
Hi!
Very long time since I last wrote here, but now I'm back with my organ recordings. :)
Doing preparation for a pipe organ recording. So I went and tested some Schoeps CMC6 and CMC5, with capsule MK 2S and MK3. Neumann KM130 and all audio through the Metric Halo ULN8. What do you think about sound and the first impression of the recording?

Studio Microphone Standards?
On a budget! what would be the short and long list of must have mics you would choose for a studio? short list would be for a small one man operation recording one or two tracks at a time and no live drums and the long list would be for any studio recording bands live and small ensembles.

Timpani Mic
Hello, I'm a timpanist with little knowledge of audio recording. I'm simply looking to record myself practicing at home (mic 12' away) and at my orchestra hall with the (mic 80' away). I have an AT4040 and Sennheiser HD 512 headphones. Recording into my Mac with Amadeus Pro for simplicity (not doing any editing).

Vocal Normalization... Done In Mixing or Actual Mic Technique?
Pretty straight forward question... as I cut vocals, I often find that later phrases or phrases that descend to lower notes have a drop in relative volume and are hard to hear -- I've been creating volume envelopes to compensate, and I also know I can use limiters with threshold and ceiling settings or compressors to do something similar (just starting to do this)...

Digital Audio, Spectra Editing, Object Based Editing, Normalization... Watch this to the end.
