New "old" microphones
Hi,
When Universal Audio gave the 1176 a rebirth, I was hoping that other companies would follow. I would love to have the opportunity to buy a new AKG C12 or a Neumann U47. So why won't these companies make these classic mics again? With the exact same components as the old ones.

Does burning candles in the studio cause harm to Mic's
What do you think?
Guitar recording mics
I just wonder which mics are good for guitar recording. So, which mic would be the best for a tight, distorted guitar?
I helped some friends recording a demo/CD and we couldn't get a good sound. Right now I can't remember which mics we used, but we want to go over it again.

So, how do I know when my mic's shot?
I realise this is a pretty broad question--I suppose it's specifically referring to my NT-1 and dynamics, but how do you know when it's time to get something repaired in your mic?
Thanks!

MicrophoneMan's Mixer-o-Choice Top-10
Since people really weren't up for talking about what they felt about their summing bus - lets talk about the whole damn desk - as the musical instrument that could be considered the most important thing in the room (although monitors are the only thing you actually hear, so they get #1 - along with the use of them acoustically), but anyways..

foot switch for live mics?
Dumb questions are allowed in the beginner's forum, right? :D
Anybody seen, used or built something like this? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

MB Mics
Hi folks,
I've just bought a MB603 body with the cardiod and omni capsules, does anyone else have this mic, what applications is it useful for? How do you rate it?
Cheers!

Mic refinishing
I know Electro-Voice quit doing this years ago but does anyone know who can refinish mics besides the guys who do RCA's?
I have a couple of Electro-Voice 666's that still work well but look like hell.
Paint's worn off in places and some bad engraving marks from the previous owner.
I'd like to get them refinished so they'll look good on a '60's podium.

Headroom & Dynamic range
Hi,
I am interested in the allocated headroom that you guy's leave for each instrument.
Although this is really a question in regard to Digital work stations the RMS equivalent would also be of interest.
Question #1: The maximum peak level allocated to a drum kit e.g. -18 (digital) -3vu ?

Best processor for ribbon mics
I'm looking for the best pre and/or processor for my collection of ribbon mics.
I do voice-over work into a DAW.
What do the experts here recommend?
I'm looking at a Great River/RNC combo or a Manley Voice Box.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
