PC: P4 3.2ghrz 1.2 giog or ram (corsaire), hdd ultra atra 7200rpm 160gig HD2, external usb 2 western digital 260 gig (for audio track)

I got Samplitude 7 today. I had given up hope that it would arrive, and assumed I'd been ripped off, but it's here and it's wonderful. I was able to go through the activation process, so it's real.

Are there any free plugins that work for Audacity? If so, could you please post them

What's a good db level to reach for during mixdown? I've been told by 2 different MEs on 2 different projects that my mixes were too loud, so it messed up the overall master. However, they didn't tell me what to aI'm for. I want to get the most out of my mixes during the mastering process. Help please.

i have an emu 0404 audio card and i aws told i could look under the vst inputs and find the channel but the program will not show my emu inputs only some E-DSP wave inputs which I'm pretty sure are just the stock ones but if not could someone tell me cuz i thougth they would be there and arnt.. so how do i get the inputs there in the first place?

I can't see the level going up and down when I sing, does anyone know what I'm doing? I hear my voice in teh speakers and it lets me record but my voice doesn't get into the track...what the hell?

Alright. I am wondering how I would go about setting up a compressor so I can use it while recording and after recording. The setup that I will have is a Soundcraft FX8 Mixer, dbx 166XL Compressor, Maya1010 souncard, and Cool Edit Pro 2.0. Also, assume I am recording drums and am using 8 channels for it.
