Pro Tools Delima : LE Native vs. . . TDM 5.0
I do most of my recording and mixing to and from the Tascam MX2424. I use Samplitude to edit the tracks just like Pro Tools and send the edited tracks digitally back to the Tascam.

Mixing on a DAW ?
If I would like to perform my *mixes* inside a DAW, say I need some 32-40 inputs to mixdown, would this be possible on a pc dedicated to this task only, or am I simply asking too much given the current state of technology ?

32 bit Float vs. . 48 bit fixed --OR-- SDII vs. . WAV
Maybe some of you experts (technically or experience/ear wise) can tell clear up some possible misinformation that I have read lately. Sorry if this posts twice, I tried to post before and it didn't show up for some reason.
1)32 bit Float doesn't do what it says it does (always land at 24 bits), and that 48 bit fixed (Pro Tools) method is better. Whats the reality?
AKG BX-20
I just stumbled across an AKG BX-20 in very good cosmetic condition. Wear on the edges from moving it around, but no evidence of any big hits or other abuse. I am going to get a chance to listen to it tomorrow. I'll admit NO experience with these things.

Geetar Center is opening in Hicksville tonight!
Yep--right down the road from Mars--which is right down the road from my favorite oldschool pro audio shop.
Mix for FM Radio
I have a mix being played on FM radio tomorrow. Considering the amount of Compression/limiting that happens at FM stations, would I be better to send them a version that hasn't been compressed/limited across the mix bus ? I always do two versions of each mix - with/without mix compression.

Sleeper Gear
Fletcher,
Is there any gear out there that perhaps is not as well known as others but still would be valuable to have in the studio. I mean, I would love to have a bunch of 1073's and V76's in my studio but that's not an option. What else is out there? I'm interested to hear your and everyone else's opinion.

Q for MIXERMAN was: Q for Fletcher

SSL 9000J good or bad?
I know this sh*t is totally subjective, but I'm gettin ready to mix an upcoming project, and I'd like some input. I have been mixing on discrete Neves and API's for quite awhile. Once in a blue moon, I'll mix on an SSL. Back in the 80's I used nothing but SSL's and hated every minute of it. A G+ with Ultimation, I can just barely hang with.
