Effects on/off?
Hey! I'm using a Korg AG-10, although I imagine the principles would apply to most any unit. I don't have the manual (it was purchased used, and I since inherited it), and am new to MIDI. So here goes:

Explain BUSSING on MIXDOWN
What are some of the reasons to bus on mixdown? I am not talking about tracking. It seems to be a big pain in the arse for me for a couple of reasons and I cant see any advantage, so I need some big pros who have worked on big 16 or 24 bus consoles to explain in to me.

Problems with Nuendo
I recently started using nuendo on a 450 mhz amd k6 3 machine with 192 megs of ram and a 12 gig 5400 rpm hard drive and with windows 2000.
I was hopping to be able to at least run enough trks to do vocal comps at home. I can't even run 1 16 bit trk.
Any thoughts that could help without me having to upgrade to a huge machine.
Thanks

Spectrum Analyzers...
...I need some recommendations in the hardware category (since I don't use a computer in the control room, s/w isnot useful to me!) What is considered good for typical studio usage?
(not for room adjustment, simply for gauging frequency spectrum usage of tracks and mixes)
Thanks...
Bruce

103 "Monolith"?
Are people really being asked to pay 25% more for a black paint job and no performance improvements at all? A "collector's" edition of Neumann's discount mic? An April fools prank? Or a new marketing manager at Neumann USA with huge balls and no shame?

O.K. Fletcher - Let's have it
Alright, I'm ready for an earful. Fletcher, you seem to have an opinion about a lot of things. Most of what I've read here is negative when it concerns other people's albums and other engineer's work. I'm partly referring to the Aerosmith topic elsewhere. I picked up the Aerosmith CD and I didn't feel offended by how it sounds. It just sounds like Aerosmith playing rock music.

Aerosmith & PROTOOLS!
I give a hats off to Aerosmith for recording their whole albums in Protools. I have no idea why this has been such a big issue with the industry for so long, people saying that "Its a great editor, BUT...", well if these boys dont prove that its the real deal, I don't know who else will. I have been using all digital for the last 5 years and if its done right, no one can hear the difference.

Magnetically shielded masters storage
I got ripped this morning and had a thought. Has anybody every constucted a magnetically shileded storage bin for their media masters? I know 1/4" reels will store well in the right atmostphere, but unfortunately I don't have the ideal atmosphere. I have a 2 bedroom condo.
