Absolute Beginner guide to recording instruments?

Hi! I have no idea if this is the right place for this, but my friends and I are in a band, and we want to start recording.

Now I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing this, and I would really appreciate if someone could help us out.
We have two guitars, a bass guitar, drums, and two vocals.

I'd like to introduce a new member

Hi all...

I'd like to introduce a new member to our forum, Eddie1261.

Ed and I have been friends for a long time, going back to the early 80's. We've shared both stages and studios together over the years, and I suggested he join this forum because he is recording his own project right now and I thought he might benefit from the vast amount of knowledge here in these halls.

New and not so new

Hey! I have been out of the home recording loop for so long that I feel like a newbie so I figure this is the best place to start.

What I'm looking to do is record vocals while monitoring effects (reverb). I just like to hear the effect while I'm recording vocals. For some reason it helps put me in a better zone when there's a touch of reverb going on.

For those who may be new to the craft

I came across this article on EQ (while searching for another on phasing issues) and I thought that it was pretty good; well explained, clear and practical, and I thought it might benefit those here who are new to audio production.

It's certainly not an "end all-be all" article, but you might find it to be a valuable resource all the same.
