New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 2014 - comparisons

Two bands coming at sound 2 different ways. It made me think, realize (yet once again), how we lack so much life in music today. One of these bands is so over compressed where the other has very little processing and fantastic mic placement.

Santana is all about dynamics. I listened to most of Santana then compared the same show with Christina Aguilera.

recording - Best beginner book?

hello my friends, just want to know what the best book would be, for a beginner whose starting from ground zero nd absolutely no knowledge of recording, would be to purchase to get some good knowledge like Recording/Mixing for dummies or something like that. I would hope it speaks "english" as far as terms n what not so i dont havta keep jumpin back n forth between a dictionary.

Orion32 Madi to MOTU Traveller Mk3.

I am, as audiokid knows, now in possession of more gear than I truly know what to do with :). I really would like to go as Chris says to go out one system into another. Here is my dilemma, I was going to use my iMac and run a second copy of Logic Pro X, which thanks to Apple I could. Trouble is, I can't fit it in the studio alongside the 32 inch screen the Mac Pro currently has.

too much mud in the final mix

So I've been searching the internet for tips on how to keep from having too much 'mud' in the final mix of a track while still not having too much treble. It seems I always fall in to either category but I can never stay in that sweet spot. When I have the solo tracks they always seem fine to me, but in the final mix the mud comes out and I'm not sure how to go about correcting it properly.
