Latency; Pro Tools/MIDI
Forums
Hey guys, I'm having trouble recording with MIDI in Pro Tools(not only midi but mostly) When recording audio from a MIDI recording there is a latency of about, well it depends... I move the buffer size around from 1024/512 to 128, sometimes to 64. but as the session gets bigger, it gets to be a problem.
Is there any way of changing this without the hassle?
Juan

New to the DAW world
Forums
I have a question for all of you DAW guys/gals out there. I started recording with a Korg D1600 and was doing everything on that until a friend hooked me up with Cubase. Once I got Cubase, I would record onto the Korg, transfer the tracks to CD and load those tracks into Cubase where I would mix them.

Has anyone heard this mic? Apparently it's a "dual tube" - two vacuum tubes in a large diaphragm transformerless condenser microphone. What exactly does this do for the sound? Is this cool innovation or just a gimmick?

Converter display discrepancy -- Apogee to Lynx
Forums
I run my analog signal into an Apogee PSX-100SE, which then carries the signal into a Lynx AES16 card in my DAW. The Apogee shows the level at around -2 to 6dB, but the Lynx software mixer shows the signal at +12 to +16dB, and my recording application (Sound Forge) shows a level comprable to the Apogee (around -2 to -6dB). I cannot understand why they would show different signal levels...
Do you "Tune" your ears?
Forums
Just wondering if many other engineers sit down a few minutes before a session and listen to a really well produced CD in order to kinda calibrate thier ears?
I do before every session because I feel that I hear things a little differently each day. I've also read a few times, that humans have a very short "hearing memory".
Just wondering.

Trent Reznor seems to be/have a very talented engineer

he gets away with many things which one would normally get kicked for; for example in the song "hurt" he has vocal at 2 o'clock, guitar ar 3 o'clock, broken up lo-fi guitar at 11 o'clock, and a sweeping pink noise panned hard left. And he makes it sound good...
