I like starting topics to help the new recording enthusist better understand things each step of the way. Let's ask Sebatron some really basic questions about preamps.

I recently upgraded to SONAR 3 which includes a plugin that allows you to spacially "place" instruments. I haven't had much of a chance to play with it but the intital results were just ok.

I'm looking to get a new audio card soon, and I have read a lot of reviews. Many say Lynx has the best converters that don't come in an external box. Anyone out there using Lynx cards?

How stable and efficient are their Mac drivers?
Do they cooperate with PCI ATA controller cards?
How much better is an external A/D/A like the Rosetta 800?

Why are Great River mic preamp's so Great and how do vocals sound with them (assuming the singer can sing)?

Hi all, I'm planning on purchasing an Alesis hd24. What mixer should I get? It's for home studio use- Micing electric guitars thru amps, acoustic strings(mandos, banjos, martins), vocals, drums.
I've been reading some negative stuff about the Mackie 1604. Should I get the Mackie? What else can I get that's around $1000?

As I continue to struggle/experiment/learn how to get the sound I want from my mics, pres, and oh yes, voice, I was inspired to try something new (to me) and it kinda, sorta, works. I take two tracks (recorded with different mics and pres), eq and compress both so that they sound as good as I can make them, but neither one "just right".

I'm using Pro Tools 6.2.2 and when trying to record or playback, I get DAE Error - 9060. Does anyone possibly know how I can fix this? thank you

Setup is a slow old PC with office-stuff etc and a second faster DAW-PC which I'd like to keep as clean and simple as possible. The smaller PC is for web-surfing & e-mail has a firewall and antivirus-software.

For file exchange I want to connect both PCs in a network (peer-to-peer, crosslink UTP cable).
