What i needed at last was a good and usefull Preamp/Mik Combination for Vocal-Recordings
Yesterday i bought a Brauner Phantom V.
So i am still searching for a good Preamp about
1500,- EUR.

does one configure a patchbay into a mult, or does one purchase a mult as a seperate product entirely called, "a mult"?

I just thought I would ask what piece of equipment I should get next to improve the sound I'm getting. I currently have:

Ok, I've been trying to do some research on external a/d d/a converters (i.e. lucid 9624). Could someone please explain to me the use of an external converter other than simply "it takes the conversion out of the computer which is a noisy environment". At the time I'm only recording vocals. Is there a need?

Other than for vocal de-essing, what other uses do folks have for an equalizer "side chained" into their compressors? I was thinking that it might help with the overheads/cymbals issue. I'm assuming you could probably use it for most instruments but with what "rule of thumb" settings?

...but I'm dreaming of a new mixing console.

Currently, I have a funky hybrid of a ProMix01 with an old Fostex 1/4" 8track R2R sync'ed up with a blackface ADAT. Then I have a bunch of MIDI gear (as many as 24 channels, though never at once) sync'ed up as well.

I'm curious to find out how's the performance of one of these HDs. Do you gain a substancial increase in track count (@24bit, 96k) using SATA? My current system houses 2 standard ATA133 drives & 1 Ultra SCSI HD on a Gigabyte P4 GA-845G MB. If there's a big difference in track count, then I'll find myself going through the annual upgrade thing once again. I do have one question.

Ok, help me out with this:

I know nothing about what one would need in the way of power amps, voltage regulators, batch pays, etc. I really don't even know what each of those do and how they should be used and when one would need them.

I have a Mac based set up and as the number of my components grow I'm guessing I need to start thinking of such things.
