Earthworks Lab 101 pre outputs?
Forums
I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with this unit.
In checking out the Lab 101pre I was a little confused with the output configuration.
I read a review (on the Earthworks site, a link to Mix mag.) that the outs were not “necessarily” balanced, even though they are XLR and TRS.

Soundelux 95(s) and 99
Forums
this question is probbably directed at Fletcher - yet Julian don't you also have a Soundelux?
I have only heard a 95s in the past, know that the 95 has a diff capsule.
but anyways - I haven't had access to a 99. I'm pretty familiar with what a 95s sounds like, what is one to expect from the 99 then, and what are the technical diffs?
thanks..

Devices?
Forums
On my linux box, besides the multitudes of old SB16 and SB32 cards I have laying around (my brother keeps finding old computers, and all of them have a sb16 in them), I use (at various times) a SB awe64, a SB 128, and my RMEdigi96 on my linux box.
The RMEsounds the best (duh!)
I use OSS commercial drivers. Less hassle, it seems.

Hard Disc master slave?
Forums
I believe you said it is best to set both hard drives as Master?Right? How do I do that? "C" drive has all my software and apps..."D" drive has audio and Reason samples etc. Will it make that much of a difference? Is it easy to do?

Compressing to tape
Forums
I wasn't sure where to put this question, so I'll ask here.
If I'm working on a project that I know I'm going to mix, I'll compress to tape when I think I need to.
Here's my question: I have a project coming up that I'm not going to mix. Whats the usual protocol or etiquette when your not mixing? Do you compress to tape? EQ?
Thanks for your answers.

Welcome Linux Audio Hackers!
Forums
Hello,
My name is Robot, and I'm your humble Linux and Csound moderator.
Linux as an audio OS? I think YES! There is a burgeoning growth of awesome new ideas and crazy experiments to be found under Linux. Alsa-project sound drivers keep getting better, Audio Multitrackers like Ardour continue to mature.
