5400 rpm hard drive adequate?
Forums
Is a 5400 rpm hard drive adequate for today's latest DAW programs?
Anyone using a hard drive of this speed with no problems?
I'm converting from a 16 track to Sonar 8.5 soon.
Thanks.

Questions about the M-audio Fast Track mkII
Forums
Hey!
I'm quite new to audio interfaces and have quite a few questions. Right now I have a Behringer XM8500 hooked up to a eurorack UB502 and also a Scecher Omen 6 electric guitar and an M-Audio Keysation 88es via USB. So basically the eurorack is there to mix and amplify the signal of the mic and guitar to recordable level. An integrated Relteck HD sound card does the recording.

Moving my gear to Europe for some gigs?

Folks-
I am considering doing some recording in Europe (Germany) on the request of an American client headed there on tour. I am asking here for advice and for the benefit of your experience. Trying to figure out two things:

Vienna Ensemble PRO Review
Forums
This looks really awesome, I need to know more about it. Has anyone here had the opportunity? I'm very interested in this software and would love to have users chime in here. I've just been told it will run 70 DVZ Strings on a single Quad Core. This is very good news.

Normalizing. Thoughts?
Forums
Hey everyone. I hope I can get some insightful ideas and emotions surrounding Normalization of individual tracks during mixdown. Heres a situation I had to use this feature. I recorded a band live. The board had post-everything direct outs. EQ, Inserts, Fader Movements.

Easy Recording Laptop on the cheap
Forums
Hi Dudes -
I do a fair amount of home studio recording, currently using a PV14-USB mixer run to a Boss BR1180 digie studio (live mixing to a stereo pair on the digital studio). I'd like to get an affordable laptop for home use, and may as well be sure it can do a good job recording too.

Opinions sought on the reasonable maximum degree of variation when using EQ
Forums
I recently recorded an acoustic guitar track that has great mids and high-end , but was very bass shy. I could make the track sound more complete by using a really broad bass boost that was on the order of 18dB at the lowest frequencies, falling ski slope style to normal at the low mids.
It sounded good, but my intuition was that this was too much use of EQ.
Subwoofer problem
Forums
I recently purchased a 10" KRK subwoofer to go along with my RoKit G2 Powered 8s. I had my 8s hooked up to my computer via a single 3.5 to left/right RCA cable. I attempted to use a similar cable with my sub. The speaker test worked fine, but on playback I have no sub.
