81380 Channel strip from a 8248 Neve Console
Forums
Hello this is my first post, although it took several days reading a lot of knowledge that is written here.
Fortune has given me 20 channel strips Neve 8248 console. And it took several days looking for information to make a power supply and connect it to function as a mic preamp.

Where to Set Preamp?
Forums
This is a very basic question, but I was just wondering how high to set the preamp for recording vox and guitar. I've heard set it as close to clipping without it clipping and elsewhere I've heard to keep it low and just use the compression later. I use compression either way, so what's the consensus on this?

Recording Guitar Straight in then Adding Amps vs. Recording Straight in With Pedal
Forums
I just got a Voice Tonelab ST pedal which produces some very impressive tones for the guitar, great amp modeling, it's even got a real tube in it to add to the sound. I'm doing some home demos and have been recording straight in, then adding amp effects using the program/VST Guitar Rig 3 from Native Instruments.
What are the best ways to prove a Mix's worthiness?
Forums
Hey i just finished mixing a song. as you can see in my profile i have some m-audio av40 monitors, and they are what i used to make my mix. it sounded great on those, but when i put it into my car and took a drive, the voices were noticeably higher than the music.

Not long enough headphone lead
Forums
Hey i have been having some trouble with my headphones. There just a standard pair nothing pro.
My problem is that the cord for them is not long enough for when i want to record vocals so i have to position myself as close as i can to my mixing desk for it to reach. i am also recording drums soon so this will be a major problem.

Display monitor noise
Forums
Do LCD displays create the same amount or type of noise (EMI) as a CRT. I currently use an ancient CRT. Singe coil pickups are very susceptible to it - have to stand 10 feet away at certain angle...
And if I get a new LCD display will I have to change my user name also?
