Levels on drum recording way hot...

Well, its been a while! Anyway, here's the deal. Went to record a drum track today. Its a 4 mic, Glynn Johns type setup as far as micing. A pair of AT2020's overhead, an AT4040 on kick, and an MD421 on snare. These are running into a Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer for pre's only, and out the sends on the Mackie into a Delta 44.

19" XLR or TRS analog patchbay for MixDream 25 pin send/return

I'm looking for a 25 pin to 25 pin patchbay that connects the 1 to 8 and 9 to 16 analog send and returns of the MixDream.
I want it have the options to patch my analog gear to either XLR or TRS for each channel. This way it saves me from buying double snakes or extra adapters. What are some really good options?

Here is an image of the rear panel of the MixDream.

How to reduce background noise?

I just bought a Samson CO3U USB mic, and although the sound quality is great, there is ALOT of background noise. I'm in a completely quiet room, but there always seem to be this slight buzz sound going on. If I go to mic options and click on "listen to device", I will have nothing going on in the room, and I still hear this very prominent background noise.

Basic MIDI operation

hello everyone, I was hoping if i could get some help with this. I bought a digital recorder for cheap about 3 years ago (Korg D1200). I switched over to Cubase because pro tools was having to many problems with windows 7.I was wondering if i could use my digital recorder as an interface for my laptop that has Cubase 5 on it. The recorder has a midi out.

Compress vs Limit Into DAW?

Hi all,

Do you compress your audio signals before going into your DAW? Or limit?

I have an Aphex Expressor and use it to compress signals going into my DAW. But it occurs to me that it might be better to use the outboard Expressor merely for limiting (defeating much of its features) and then rely on plugins for non-destructive compression in-DAW. Is this a good idea?
