recording guitar

When i plug my guitar into my sound card i can't hear myself play... Even when i put all kind of boosters on my channel.
But when i record and normalize can i hear what i recorded in playback ...

Does this mean i need to a preample between my guitar and soundcard so that i can hear myself play in real time?

Silly question but i don't to buy anything unecessary...

I HAD PLANS TO GET THE NEW Tascam DM4800 BUT PEOPLE ARE TELLING ME NO.

best up grade for me

Hello everyone, Im tryin to figure out what upgrade would strenghten my recording chain the most.My monitors I believe are the weakest part of my chain right now,but i have a guy building me a custom set guaranteed(by him) to please.
The other thing is i know i need a different mic for vocals but its gonna have to wait for summer till i can afford some thing high-end .

need decent headphones for mixing/tracking

there are so many brands and models of headphones to get, that I don't know where to start.

First off these will be used for tracking monitoring, mixing, mastering etc. Now I know headphones are gonna suck for mixing, but it's where I have to start due to price, and environment (tracking in same room as computer).
