EQ before or after recording vocals?
Is EQ something that should only be adjusted after recording vocals? I've read that compression can be applied before recording, but only if you know what you are doing since it can't be taken out. Is it the same deal with EQ?

Old School Hip Hop Vocals? (90's)
I'm about to get started in recording songs but I need to know what equipment to get to get that 90's type of vocal sound.
I have 300$ to buy either a a mixer or mic preamp or whatever I should get to at least get me started. I plan to also buy a Stellar CM5. Something like Too Short - Way to real has that special delay and warm sound that I like.

Vocal Processing TIPS
Hey guys. I'm looking for some pointers on how you process your vocals. Sometimes I have real trouble getting mine to sit in a mix and sometimes I even find they sound quite thin at the source which is obviously something I really need to take care of.
SO!
I would like to know from you pro types.
What kind of signal level do you use for vocal input ?

In search of soundcard for vocals, guitar, bass and even midi
Hi! I roamed around the forum a bit, and I think it would be ok to ask for a help. So if there's a cooked answer already, just point me direction. But anyway.
How did Steve Miller achieve this vocal tone? "Serenade"
Harmonies?
Doubled singing?
Chorus?
Combination of the above?

Sidechaining vocals for a tighter sound?
I've heard mixes with lots of layered vocals that sounded with a precision I think humans are unable to obtain. I know a well rehearsed group can do awesome things, but these recordings were so precise as to be "machined", sort of a "dynamics-tune" instead of "auto-tune".

Recording Vocals in Pro Tools 9 question
Hey guys, quick question about recording in Pro Tools 9. I have a saffire pro 24 interface and when recording with an AKG 220 mic, the levels are fine but when looking at the waveform, it is extremely large. so yea. That is a picture of wat I'm speaking of. How do i make that look normal. it looks like its peaking but its not even that loud and i only had the gain on my saffire to 4.

Recording Vocals
I've been getting into composing my own songs and although I'm not a practised or very good vocalist, I get by. I have been recording a mate doing vocals and apart from the fact he's a far better singer than I could ever hope to be, I find his recorded vocals sound far better than mine. It's as though I make a better job recording him than I make recording myself.
