Vocals disappear - poor compressoin settings?
I'm getting my mixes really loud. When the vocals are soloed, they are clear and forward, but when the instruments really enter the mix (like in a full chorus), the vocals tend to get absorbed or quiet down. Is this a sign of over compression? I'm thinking it might be. Any help would be appreciated.
help with warming up vocals in mix
look for help with warming up the vocals in my recordings. i am using a at2035 into the maudio mbox2 mini. Pro Tools 7.1 is my program. after do the normal eq, condenser, desser, and then busing the delays and reverb the voicals are just coming out to cold; hard; standing out in the mix to much. I'm looking for sugestions. how about a tube preamp added before the mbox.

Recording guitar, vocals, cello, violin LIVE with 2 mics?
I'm recording a songwriter with 1 large condenser; vocals and acoustic guitar. Also, I'm Micing a cello, and a violin with a RODE ntg-2 shotgun. I'm running both into a Zoom H4N recorder.
Here's a mock-up of how I intend to set up. Nix the back-up singers. Any ideas or tips?
Much appreciated!
Strange gohstly static sound hovering above chat show vocal track, what is it?
Hi,
Thanks in advance for reading and any help that you may have :)
I record a weekly tech podcast and I'm trying to make the sound as professional as possible.
mixing vocals
i was wondering how do engineers get that "in front of your face" sound on vocalists. i am currently mixing down a friend of mine that did a rap on one of my beats. i compressed his track a bit, then sent it to two aux tracks to one panned left and one panned right and slightly lowered the level. any other tips or advice you can give me please!

1202fx how do I monitor vocals with effects and tape input while recording dry vocal?
I have a little mixer called the Behringer Xenyx 1202 FX
What I would like to do is monitor my vocals with the effects from the mixer along with the output from my computer's sound card through the headphone Jack on the mixer.
But when recording, only record the dry vocals back into my computer. I have tried many things but nothing is really working.
