Description
The term ADAT has come to stand for both the original digital tape machines and also for the lightpipe data transmission system. The ADAT lightpipe has become an audio industry standard for digital data transmission between units other than the original ADAT tape machines.

Hooking up Alesis ADAT to M audio Project Mix

I recently picked up an Alesis ADAT blackface to us as 8 extra inputs with my project mix using lightpipe. I used the pitch control on the ADAT to set it to 44.1. I have the lightpipe cables run properly and I tried using both the project mix and the Alesis as the sync source but I seem to be having the same problem any way I set it up.

ADAT and other connections

I was going through the options for budget multitrack interfaces and some don't have Firewire nor USB, but some other connecting ways like ADAT and S/PDIF. I'm specifically talking about Mackie Onyx 800R which I was thinking about getting but my laptop doesn't have those entries . How would I connect that interface on my PC or any PC with usb/Ilink(firewire)?

Thanks.

A Question About ADAT

If I wanted to use the Optical ADAT I/O on my audio interface for 8 extra channels of audio I/O, would I have to use a separate clock source (i.e. word clock) or will it sync on it's own. For example, if I used the Behringer Ultra gain 8-channel AD/DA would I it need to be synced with the master clock in my audio interface.

Thank you for your concern
