hey everybody.
i currently have a PreSonus fp-10, and am looking for a way to get some more pre's. I am considering buying another fp-10 and daisy chaining them together, but i am also considering upgrading to a Digidesign 002 interface so later i can upgrade to ADAT. But i was curious, if i were to buy the Digidesign 002, would i be able to connect my fp-10 to the 002 by firewire and get the 12 pre's, or would i have to get ADAT pre's?
thanks!

While it's great to have a plan of how to stage your equipment upgrades (and I wish more people had), you may be putting too much emphasis on the ADAT side of things at the moment.

The only reason for considering an 002 is to run PTLE. If PTLE is not on your game plan, don't get an 002. Your FP10 will not connect directly to an 002, nor will it be recognised by PT.

Your thinking should be something along the lines of: want to get into using PT, so get 002 now to act as a PT dongle. Continue to record and track with non-PT DAW software using both the FP10 and 002 to give me 12 pre-amps. Import the .wav files into PT for mixing, effects etc. When I can afford it, sell the FP10 and buy an 8-channel ADAT output pre-amp to connect to the 002 so I can do the tracking using PT. Note that this still limits at 12 pre-amps, but has the possibility of going to 16 channels using an external 4-channel pre-amp feeding the 002 line inputs. Maybe another couple of channels via S/PDIF, but that's starting to get expensive and anyway could give me sync problems.

If PT does not feature in your workflow, just get another FP10.

Map it out in your head before laying down any cash.
