Getting that deep, pro bass sound

I'm delving into mixing some multitrack live recordings of my rock band. I'm Micing a Bergantino 12" cabinet with a Beta 52A, and taking a direct off the bass player's 5-string Modulus bass.

How do you pros manage to get that deep, solid bass tone that you hear at a live concert, or on a good studio recording? EQ? Compression? It's proving elusive to me.

How to rceord an acouostic bass guitar

Hi. Next week I have a session booked next week where I (may) have to record an acoustic bass. I have plenty experience in acoustic guitar miking, but was wondering if anyone could offer me advice on placement, and mic selection, this being a very different beast. The guitar has a pickup, but would want to capture some of the guitar body sound as well as the direct sound.

Recording Bass with what I got. (Quick Question)

When I tracked guitar with my band 2 weeks ago I used an sm57 & Behringer C-4. which surprisingly sounded pretty good. I was just going to use the same setup to record bass.

But I also have an Electro-Voice EL33 and an Apex 120. Would it be better to replace the sm57 with one of those?

Bass Reduction Using Audacity

I've recorded about 20 songs using Audacity from an audio receiver. The highs and mids are good but there is too much bass on each. Is there an effect in Audacity to reduce the bass? It has effects for bass boost but no bass reducer. I tried the high pass filter but the results weren't good. I've reduced the incoming bass for future recordings.
