star quad cables?

I was reading an article about Micing choirs and the writer advised that normal 3 prong XLR cables were insufficient for live recordings due to length of run and height of microphones. The danger was picking up radio broadcasts with suspended or elevated mics. He advised that only star quad cables be used - 4 conductors plus a braided shield.

Auxilliary cables

Hi all,

I have a really silly question, and I'm actually quite suprised that i don't know the answer to this, but perhaps i am not alone.

I have an allen & heath zone 62 mixer, on the back i have booth out, record out, main mix out, etc... and of course "Aux Out".

Now, i know most equipment (audio and video?) comes equipped with these "Aux Outputs".

Patchbays & D-I-Y wiring/cables

I plan to install a few patchbays so I can route/patch my gear and signals better. I'd like to see if it would be worth the time to "build" this network of wiring or maybe spend a little more and purchase everything altogether. I currently patch everything from the board. I know this is'nt the thing to do, but the budget back then was'nt up to par like it is nowadays. Time for change.

cables

Allright, I replaced my cables with mogami due mostly by posts I read at this forum. I did notice recordings I made earlier now seem brighter. For instance, the high hats and cymbals are much more defined and the guitars have more high end now. I havn't tried recording any new tracks yet, but the monitors seemed to open up.
