Okay. How about a topic where we can put aside our gear snobbery and risk the wrath of others who would thumb there noses at cheap gear and people who have used said cheap gear, and you tell us, what cheap gear you have used that you actually ended up liking.

A cheap preamp will make your recordings sound better than no preamp at all correct?

hello everyone, i was thinking about getting an Alesis Multimix 16 Firewirem mixer to replace my curent setup. does anybody know if there are any drawbacks to the Alesis that i should consider before getting it. i need it for recording bands, and i have not yet decided on a computer for it. are there any other mixers in this same price range that would be better.

I'm a sucker for strange, cheap mics. I picked up a pair of the super-cheap MXL's at Guitar Center. (Same company as Musician's Friend.) Though I have a closet full of Shures, Sennheisers, AKG's, Royers, Neumanns, AT's, etc, I actually went back and bought a second pair to give to a friend.

Basically I want a mic and preamp that will go into my computer at thats it. I dont know a lot about this so basically what i need to know is the raw basics i need to record with half decent sound. I dont want it to sound like a cassette player but it doesnt have to be professional sounding either, I'm not worried about too much mixing.

I have a young Rock Band in the studio recording a four song demo.
The bass player is using a cheap $300.00 IBanez Bass.
The big problem is, every string on this thing rattles against the frets causing unpleasant fret buzz. The bass just sounds horrible. I don't even think a set-up on this would help.
