I have had a couple of posts on here about home recording, but as from January I am turning my rehearsal studio in a recording studio. Obviously we are not talking Abbey Road, I will be on a tight budget. I am looking to offer bands good quality recording for a low price. So I need to get a good setup. I already have most of the software so its mainly hardware to start with.

I know that tube mics don't need phantom power because it has it's own power supply, but what will I need if I want to record straight from mic into computer?

i'm trying to get my sister setup with a recording program
her desktop is a pentium 4 2.4 hz, windows xp
but she only 1.5 gb of ram.
i noticed Ableton and studio one both ask for minimum 2 gb of ram,
am going to try to add ram, but dont know if i can.
will be hooking her up with a mobile pre usb m-audio box, so that should be fine,

Would it be better if I built myself a computer (both strictly for recording music) or bought a Quad-Core Mac Pro? I can afford the 12-core, so would that be better or what?

I'm getting a new computer for the studio, and here is what it should be able to do/handle.

1. Have to run Pro Tools 8/9HD/10 without ever having a glitch, lag, or latency problem.

Provided we can put the PC close to the table where people will be talking and I can run a cable between the sound mixer and the PC, are webcams good enough to record a conference/lecture? Are there webcams that can be put on a tripod?

Also, for that purpose, which application would you recommend for PCs and Macs?

Been recording our 3 piece (drums, bass, guitar) through a Behringer MX2004a Mixer on to a Stand Alone CD unit. Overall satisfied with the quality considering but would like to maximize it as it is inconsistent. I am open to any suggestions on improving the system for short $$ without converting to a computer system.

I am getting together my recording things now and I of course need a computer. (I should mention I am going Pc)

I will mainly be doing solo stuff with guitar, drums, vocals etc.

I have a problem. When I burn mp3 music to discs all of them play fine on various CD players, DVD players etc., but some do not play on my laptop. When I put the discs in they come up as blank. I have searched everywhere on the net can't find the solution. This only happens to some of my discs and only CD-Rs. Why is this? Thank you.
