I am a bit rusty with my digital knowhow, and hit this query on another board. Thought id ask you ppl. for advice.

The gentleman in question has a Behringer DDX, Vamp pro (guitar emulater) and a DAW running SX with an m-audio firewire interface.

I was just wondering how would you connect the following equipment:

PreSonus Digimax Preamp
Digi 002R
dbx166XL compressor
Mackie 16*8 bus
KRK V8 monitors (would you connect to mixer or directly from digi002r?)

I am about to solder up my patchbay. I have a mixture of balanced & unbalanced gear. Often I will be patching effects directly from channel inserts which are unbalanced.

I have a 002 with balanced and unbalanced 1/4" connections for the monitors and the analog outputs. I was given a good pair of studio monitors (Model SBM by Tannoy, if anyone knows them) that I want to use, but they have a screw-type connector - I apologize for not knowing the name of the connector type.

Does having multiple connections beetween mic and preamp and preamp and interface make a difference with sound quality?

It cant be easy to make a mic cable come into your studio and plug into your preamp and then out of your preamp and into my interface.

At what length should i worry about using balanced connections?

Mics / Synths / Audio Sources >--> Mixer >-- (unbalanced outs to balanced ins) --> Aardvark LX6 >-- (balanced outs to balanced ins) --> Event TR8XLs
