I'm thinking of building up a studio. As a assistent in a digital one(Yamaha 02r, Alesis hd24...) I learned a lot, but now I have a problem :)

Is there any such thing as a mastering console that would be considered semi pro?

Something that would have level control and a few inserts. 3 pairs of outputs? Perhaps a 2 to 4 rack space size.

But with a smaller price tag then the custom built stuff?

I recently aquired and old Soundtracs MRX 24/8 mixer and I have trouble with noise (probably dust) from the different channel faders. I haven't yet tried cleaning with a vacuumcleaner because I'm wondering if that is the right way to go. Any suggestions at all are VERY welcome. .

Hi all, this is my first post and I must say I love this forum! I am looking to upgrade my studio with new preamps soon. Probably mostly Sebatron s and Vintech. The setup is recording analog into an Alesys HD24 then firewire the track files to the PC and Cubase SX for mixing. I'm trying to decide if I need a "high-end " mixing board though. Right now I'm using a Behringer MX-9000.

An offer fell into my lap to purchase a Soundtracs CM4400. The price is good, and I could use a large console, but I just don't know much about how the console sounds, operates, etc.

I have decided to use a patchbay to connect the wall jacks to the back on the console. I have ADC patchbay with punchdown's in the back. My question is will I reverse the + and - on the patchbay when I wire it up ? There is a phase button on each channel. The mixer ( Tac Scorpion )shows the XLR and line inputs as being =

pin 1 - sleeve
pin 2 - -
pin 3 - +

Anybody know anything about this mixer, Chilton QM3 ? There's one up for sale here and it might even be cheap. I know it's 70's and a discrete neve-style design. Possibly it's one of the "designed for BBC" desks but I'm not sure. Is this something very, very good ? Thanx for any input.

I am the head Pro Tools engineer at a studio with a Trident Vector 432. I think this console has a pretty nice sound. Part of my deal is I get to use it whenever it's not booked.
