Mic Preamp and AD converter Order?
Hi,
So far this is what i know
If i have a mic and i want to get a decent sound to my PC, one way of going about it is to put the mic into a combined A/D converter and mic preamp amp and then send this to a digi 001 system and it pops out at the computer.

Ignorant converter question.
Ok. I've been searching for ways to expand to more pre's on my board. I'm going to be building some of the seventh circle pre's and start mixing/matching different pre's. I want to run them into the ADAT IN on my board. I would need an 8 channel A/D converter correct? I'm still a newbie so take it easy on me.

Converter display discrepancy -- Apogee to Lynx
I run my analog signal into an Apogee PSX-100SE, which then carries the signal into a Lynx AES16 card in my DAW. The Apogee shows the level at around -2 to 6dB, but the Lynx software mixer shows the signal at +12 to +16dB, and my recording application (Sound Forge) shows a level comprable to the Apogee (around -2 to -6dB). I cannot understand why they would show different signal levels...

Where exactly in the audio chain does the A/D converter goes
I keep reading about the importance of the A/D converters. But Im curiouse to see where in the chain do they go. Do they go something like this ?

Do I really need an AD/DA Converter ?
I own 2 Aardvark Q10's which I use on my Dell computer. They have their own A/D converters rated at 24 bits 96khz. I keep reading the great raves the Apogee system )like the Rosetta) keep getting from everyone. They have the same sampling rate as the Q10, but an Apogee system cost like 3 tiems the price of the Aardvark Q10. Any of you have any suggestions ? should I keep my Q10's ?

US-224 A/D converter question
Hi all. I bought a used US-224 for a few bucks just to give it a whirl and it seems pretty cool. It has 24 bit A/D converters (64 times oversampling), but I'm not sure of the quality (I'm guessing not very high because you can find these things for less than $130). I'm wondering if I get a decent preamp to stick in front of the US-224 if it will make much of a difference in sound quality?
