I just bought a Echo Audiofire 4 soundcard.

Seems to be working quite nice, but sometimes I get a crackling noice.
This happens during playback of both recordings and mp3 files with winamp. I never hear the noices when I'm recording.

Ok, this is a problem I seem to have often. The issue is basically this, my mixes sound fine. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them. Everything seems to sound clean and glitch free. Then I start messing around with mastering. Now if I am doing something clean with like acoustic guitars or a more clean sounding guitar then I can get a good sounding master.

I am new to recording, have encountered a puzzling problem.
I am using Cool Edit Pro 2.0, and while in the program the .wav file plays as it should, but if i play the same file in another program (winamp) for example its all crackily. Did i just forget to filter somthing. I don't even know where to start looking.
Any help would be appreaciated.

How come when i use a normal Sennheiser vocal mic, to record a guitar amp. when i strum really hard it like makes distorted crackling noises. is it the wrong type of mic i am using?

into a
Behringer ub1832fx-pro
into my computers AC'97 soundcard.

Im not a pro by any means... I guess I should tell you my setup first.

Sonar 3 Producer Edition, PreSonus Firepod, Behringer Composer Pro-XL, Aphex 204, many plugins.
