Motown bass

Ok, so recently, I've been listening to a great deal of Motown, and I'm always amazed by the sound of the bass, specifically in songs like Papa Was A Rolling Stone. I doubt I'll be able to emulate that, and I also understand the bass players were simply great musicians, but just out of curiosity does anyone have any knowledge of the recording process used to capture the bass?

How come TUBE TECH LCA-2B compressor gets no respect?

I thought a tube compressor would compliment my Alan Smart C-1 nicely for my 2-bus and final master to CD but can't for the life of me find any glowing reviews anywhere on the unit. It's obviously a high end piece of gear but from what I read on forums though the Manley vari-mu (which I couldn't afford) definitely is preferred by most.

just wondering what the peeps are using a lot of these days.

I know there old, but i just can't seem to get enough of the Focusrite 6 band EQ, and I almost always start compressing with the fairchild 660.
for limiting, i like the plain jane digirack limiter II.
has anyone used the new III series?

oh yeah, as if i need to say it I'm using Pro Tools.

how would you spend 15,000?

I was reading an old post on PT versus Native systems, and i was wondering, compatability aside, if you were purely going for highest quality, and you had to start from scratch, would anyone buy a high end PT system, or would you by a Native system for much less, and buy the converters you want, and still have cash for pre's, etc.

PT 5.x.x TDM Mix systems plugs. wanna read your comment

Hi friends. I have to be honest that I am asking the same question at the DUC also.

first of all, I would like to have your opinions about compressors. Which one(s) do you think have provided you better results with specific recording/mixing techniques and different instruments and voices.
