Aphex, focusrite, PreSonus or ART Preamps?

Hi guys!
I've been looking for some decent quality preamps vs price.
I'm ready to spend 600.00$ for a TWO channel preamps and i have in mind the APHEX 207, but was not able to find some reviews.
ART: the vendor at the music store in town told me that his first choices on that range would be the ART Gold. Personnally i own a MP and not satisfied.

Focusrite ISA 428. Preamp myths and expectations. Help!

So I have a PreSonus Eureka and an ART Pro channel. They're ok, but all of the true professionals I know are telling me to stop wasting money on these prosumer gear, and instead buy a couple real pieces.

I'm considering purchasing the Focusrite ISA 428. Am i really going to hear a difference in my mixes send stuff through this instead of the Eureka?

Focusrite or Avalon or?

Anybody have or heard any good things about the Focusrite products? I am looking at the MH441 (or) the MKII. The write up on this unit says it uses Neve based preamp designs.
How do they compare to Avalon products?
FYI---I am looking for a vocal preamp and also would like to get one to use on my drum mic (kick mic)
All suggestions are welcome! :D

"Hiss" from my new Focusrite VM Pro

I've been having trouble getting a clean signal on this new equipment. Here's the chain...

CAD M9 tube mic > Focusrite VM Pro > Edirol UM-25 > computer Hard drive located in the next room. Pretty simple, yes?

The cabling from the Cad mic into the VM pro is a balanced XLR, and from VM Pro to Edirol is balanced XLR also.
