I'm looking at building a rack bridge for some gear I have ordered (Focusrite TwinTrak and Digi 002R). What is the standard width of rack gear from ear to ear (from far edge to far edge)? I know the gear itself varies from 18.5-19", but that's the width of the case, not from ear to ear...

I'm fairly new to the whole recording thing. I'm wondering what stuff I need to start building a basic home set-up, and what brands to go with. I've been hearing from one end "Mackie is the best", and then oh "Mackie sucks go with Roland". Okay. How about a topic where we can put aside our gear snobbery and risk the wrath of others who would thumb there noses at cheap gear and people who have used said cheap gear, and you tell us, what cheap gear you have used that you actually ended up liking.

anyone know any good places to rent gear, i'm really looking to rent a 3124 for a day, or two nice Neve pres for a band i'm recording an album for, just need it a day or so, i used to have a couple places bookmarked for when i would need to rent from those places but i've updated my pc since then,

the other reason i posted was because i was wondering if focus rite manufactures trakmasters for both the us ans the uk or just one model and its up to the owner to provide the right transformers for the component.
