Drum head choice for jazz
I purchased a USA maple ludwig set 1990's with 12 and 13 inch toms, 16" floor, 22x16 bass drum, 14X5 maple snare.
I want to use them for session drummers.
What heads would be good for recording jazz?
Also any recommendations for cymbals would be helpful. Most guys I am told carry their own and may have different cymbals for recording.
Thanks

Recording Jazz Bass
I've got the XM radio and I've become a bit bored with the 60s, 70s and 80s, so I've been flicking around and landed on a couple of the jazz stations.
I have no plans to record a jazz band anytime soon, but I'm curious about how they are recorded, specifically the bass, acoustic or upright bass.

Micing a snare drum for use with jazz brushes
Well, I wish to rec the snare while playing it with brushes: since I am total new to the "Micing world", I will gladly accept any advice about the ways to get a good result
Actually, I tried it parallel to the ground, 3cm away from the snare: the result seem's decent to me, but I suppose the existence of some "old classic" way to this :)
thanks :)
Jazz recording new gear suggestions
Hi folks
I am a newcomer to live recording, but have experience of mixing and overdub recording. I will shortly have a budget of around £1800 Sterling (about $3300) to invest in some new equipment to help me record small jazz groups live and on location studio projects.

Stereo Live Jazz recording - MS or XY?
Hi folks, sorry for the long post - I'm seeking some specific advice from more experienced engineers which I haven't been able to find so far in these forums.
I am a musician who currently does a lot of home recording and mixing but am looking to get into location recording of small group jazz gigs (mainly in clubs).

grand piano, but NOT jazz or classical (any advice?)
So I have experience recording "baby" grand piano's but it's been all jazz or classical live performances. Tomorrow I'm recording a duo. Upright bass and piano with fem. vocals from the pianist.
