Friends...

Got a great gig tomorrow evening...a jazz quartet, featuring trap set (small cocktail kit), upright bass, classical guitar, and rhodes.

Except for the trapset, I'm not going with any isolation - just mic positions, careful gain structure, etc...no headphones, let the guys mix themselves to a degree.

Here's the plan:

I cant seem to post a photo but if you look on the inside cover of coltranes a love supreme there are 2 right over elvins drums.
They look like Neumann small diapragm condensers with a funny
globe ball basket on the ends ( like a big ball)
Any info is greatly appreciated, i.e. Make model, condenser?, transformer? tube?

The person who will be playing the set is a very capable player.
We are in the process of purchasing these mics.. ( any other suggestions/comments/Criticism

Hi all

I've recorded a jazz band a few times
(in one of their homes, living room)
I'm starting to get a good sound on disk

In a few weeks they'll be playing live in a foyer (sort of)
Think 8x8meters and 4 meters high
There'll be about 40 visitors

Maybe some of you have some recording tips for me

I am going to record a live show in a local Jazz Club next week. I have quite a bit of experience in recording Jazz in the studio but this will be the first time I record live to multitrack outside of a studio setting. What should I watch out for? Maybe some one could share some his/her experience in live recording.
