Setting up a Jazz Trio
I have a jazz trio session coming up and was wanting a few tips on positioning within the room. They want to be in the same room with each other. It will be a piano (stienway upright), up right bass, and jazz drums ( K,S,H,T,FT,crash, ride). Vocals we will overdub. My tracking room is 25' X 30' with a 17' X 12' hardwood floor in the middle. No parallel walls, 14' ceiling.

outdoor mic for jazz horn ensemble
Hi Group -
This is my first post in this section. Tomorrow I'm set to run sound for a high school jazz (horn) ensemble outdoors. I'm planning on using two 57's in a "Y" pattern for the group coverage. Also - another 57 or two for solos.
Am I way off on the "group" mics? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Recording Jazz with Two Drummers?
Ok, session is in two days.. will be doing live jazz with the following in one room: two drummers (both excellent drummers), sax .. the sax will both be "standard" into a mic format, and our favorite new trick: sax into a mic through a wah pedal into an amp (mic the amp). The standup bass will be in an isolated room.

Live Jazz Band Rec - Thoughts?
I am recording my son's HS Jazz Band concert. Instrumentation is pretty typical: 5 saxes, 4 bones, 4 trpts, piano, bass, drums, & 3 vocals. I would like to provide a recording (CD) to raise funds for the band. What set-up and mix-down considerations will help yield a decent product?

Question on replacing pickups on a Jazz Bass
I just purchased the Fender Custom 60s pickup set and I'm trying to replace my pickups. I can figure out the wiring fine except for the little plates that the pickups sit on also have a wire soldered to them. One plate has a long metal stem (about 3 inches) coming from the center of the plate.
My questions are:
What do you solder the wires to?

All that Jazz
Hi guys
Lately I have quite some jazz bands and of course it's kind of 'live' recording.
The only problem I have is the upright bass, the bands don't like to have the bassist in a separate room and I must admit they play better when they all are in one room.

Recording jazz big band live in 8 tracks - HELP!
