solving latency when recording vocals over prerecorded track

Forums

I'm just dipping my toe into hip hop producing. really really new. I'm looking for help with latency when recording vocals over a track. I load the track into the the program Sonar 6. record the vocals listening to the beat through headphones. when i play back in the computer the rap is off the beat.

Set the number of samples for latency compensation in C4?

Hi-
I'm sure this is probably in the manual somewhere, but i couldn't find it anywhere, so.
(if someone has a page #, that'd be great)

when you have "adjust for record latency" checked, do i also need to set the # of samples to adjust, or does that happen automatically?

Latency How big of an issue?

I'm trying to decide between and alone recorder and a firewire but I'm concerned about latency issues - We fear what we do not understand!. On stand alone recorders this seems like a non-issue but for computer based systems this is a big issue. My concern is how does it affect punch in and punch outs when fixing track mistakes?

Cubase SX3 ASIO recording Latency problems AGH!

I have Cubase SX3 and I've been trying to tweak out the settings forever now, but no matter what I do it will work fine for a bit, then while recording something, it will be out of time to the click after it's recorded. I try the ASIO Multimedia driver that Cubase automatically installs but I find it to be pretty crappy, or atleast hard to get good settings.

Latency in Colossus

I'm using EastWest's Colossus MIDI software with my USB/MIDI keyboard and I am experiencing a delay that interferes with me trying to play on-time with a beat. I have set the buffer in Colossus's settings as low as it will go (7ms i think). Is the keyboards USB connection going to make any difference than if it were connected with a MIDI cable instead.
