SDC Explained
SDC's by nature exhibit a faster transient response, as well as better stereo imaging and capturing of low frequencies.
LDC Explained
LDC's are slower to respond, due to the added mass of the capsule, comparatively speaking, and have a tendency to color sound more so than an SDC.

SDC vs. . LDC
Hay yews guise -
Like a lot of you, I am a newbie at some things and an old hand at others. My question du jour is about large vs small diameter condenser mic's; when would I best use one style, and when the other? I am operating on the cheap; the mic's in question are the SP B1's vs C4's.

Shure Vert Bar mod to accomodate LDCs in blumlein, etc...
I had the hardest time finding a vert bar to suit my needs with my LDCs, having enough clearance between the two mounting posts to run them head to head. .Below is a modification to the Shure a27m vert bar that will allow plenty of clearance.
LDC or SDC
Hi,
My next recording will be ethno-acoustic band. Except upright bass and (maybe) one violin, all instruments are (steel strings) with strong on upper mid/high freq. and lot of hard alternate picking. Comparable in some way with mandolins.

Choice is down to Two LDC mics
The BLUE Baby Bottle and an ADK A-51TC Tube condenser mics.
I think either would be pretty sweet. My only thought right now is that the ADK being a tube mic paired with my Brick pre's (also tube) may be just a little too colorful to effective on a variety of sources.

LDC from Behringer ... B-1
Hi.. Is the Behringer B1 worth the purchase? I have a friend who happens to have this mic and its recording seems fine for home users. Should i judge LDC's by sensitivity? Like they say that good mixers are nothing without a good mic, but when money's the pullback factor, is B-1 "buyable"?

Audio-Technica large diaphragm condenser mics
Ok, before I launch into my question, I want to let you guys know that I did read the AT4033 vs AT4040 thread, and tried to find as much info that was already posted before starting a new thread... I don't want to waste time re-debating, but I have a specific question.
New LDC suggestion
I'm looking to buy a nice ldc mic in the $2000 range for multiple uses(male or female vocals, acoustic guitar, drums, piano, electric guitar, room mic...). Right now my mic collection consists of:
AKG C1000
AKG D112
Audio-Technica ATM25
Audio-Technica 3035
RODE NT-2
Royer R-121
Sennheiser E609
Sennheiser MD421(3)

Need help diagnosing low gain on LDC mic
I bought my first condensor mic a couple weeks ago, and while I haven't had much time on it yet, one thing I have noticed is that I seem to have to crank up the gain on the pre in order to get any real level. Hoping I can find some answers here as to whether the issue is with the mic or the pre.
