Micing drums?
I stopped recording about 8 years ago and just recently decided to get back into it. I have a decent set of drum mics but they do not include any "overhead" mics. I ended up using two large condenser mics that I normally use for vocals but what I'm finding is that the snare comes out really loud, not giving me much control over the SM57 I use directly on the snare.

Help: Garage band + recording Setup
To sum up the background if you just want to skip to the numbered questions: I have mid-low or economy class instruments, think a garage band with 2 electric-acoustics, bass, drums, keyboard, 2 mics.

Micing A Heavy Metal Drum Kit
This isn't so much a question, as an example of how I recently mic'ed a metal drum kit for a session.
All I was recording was the kit (minus a few scratch tracks), so my resources were plentiful.
Also, I am not mixing this project - my purpose was only to provide enough quality drum tracks for the mix engineer to work with.

Anyone recording bluegrass?
I spend most of my time recording bluegrass these days. Anyone else?
It's a lot different from just about any other genre I've recorded over the years.

Signal Chain upgrade advise please
Hi,
I am currently using PreSonus firestudio as my interface and was plesently surprised with the quality of the preamps/ converters within.
I also use Joemeek Twin Q Studio Channel as my main preamp for vocals etc.
I am looking to improve my signal path to Cubase as I am expanding my studio in an effort to go professional but on a budget.

Easiest way to monitor more tracks LIVE than I can record?
Simply put:
I record through my PreSonus firepod. It can record 8 tracks at once. I don't necessarily need to *record* more than that at one time.
However,
Percussion ensemble piece
Hi everyone,
I am an audio engineering student and I was looking for some insight. I am doing a recording of a percussion ensemble concert on Saturday and one of the pieces is huge. I wanted to get as much insight/advice as possible before then.
