I've been reading online and listening to audio examples of mastered song. Mastering to me has always been "just boost your volume and you'll be OK". But as I hear more examples, song seemed to be transformed from great to excellent. I've known to bounce to disk in pro-tools then make a new session and import that bounce to start mastering.

At some points in my recording, when the singer ups his volume for a phrase or line, it sounds like the music behind it is being muffled, and sounds like if some one were covering the speaker with their hand and then removing it, if you know what I mean. Obviously the speaker has to be hand size, but you know what I mean. Any idea on how I can fix this?

I've read some time ago, about too loud audio mastering on CD's.

i plan on getting an envoice to use with a firepod and use it as a mic preamp and compressor for vocal, bass and anything else that i can think of. i also wanted to use it for mastering. its only a one channel preamp so i was thinking it wouldnt work on a stereo mix.

I haven't had time to search this subject here, but what is the prefered standard to send mixes to a mastring studio on CDr?
I have a fostex writer and have lots of options. The mastering studio that I am using has suggested that I burn them at 88.2/24 bit.
Is there any advantage to this higher sample rate?

I recorded and mixed my own album. I tried my best to do a good mix, but I know it still sounds like a home job. This is why I was expecting a fairly dramatic change after I got the reference tracks back from supposedly one of the premiere mastering facilities in Canada.

Hey, Im Jon and brand new here. I have been working on a song for a few months and just finished. Although I have recorded several pieces, I have never "mastered" anything before and I need input. As I dont have any friends who know anything, I am hoping to get some help here from some experts.

I have not been using proper monitors for mixing and master I have been using creative gaming speakers. I feel that if I buy a pair of nice studio monitors made for mixing I wil get better results in my efforts. Can anyone recommend some monitors to check out? I would ideally like to spend no more than $150, unless I am just wasting my money.

just finished work on pro-tools . the masterlink has gone down for reasons unknown and is being repaired but a new project needs to be mixed down for mastering- what are the pros and cons on the equipment available to me
there is a fostex e-2 with 456 tape with only a dbx 224 for tape noise

I feel that I have done a good enough Job but not for vinyl, I need an expert to do that. So where can I find one? Are there companies out there what specialise in mastering peoples work, prepairing it to be pressed onto vinyl? Are you one of these people? PLease assist me because Im having no luck what so ever in finding someone suitable.
