Mac G5 Optical Audio in question

I have upgraded from a G4 to a G5. Needless to say the thing is phenomenally fast. Its quite a machine. In any case I've been using a MOTU 2408 with the G4 but it doesn't work with the G5 not without spending more money. In the mean time I've been using MY old Panasonic 3800 DAT as a temp converter. I go Analog in from Neve Mic Pre through DAT to Optical out into G5 optical In.

Which soundcard for new Mac G5s ?

Hi you all,
I am considering upgrading from a G4 to G5 (which one is to be discussed later...), so my Audiomedia III will be have to be dropped except if I chose a G5 1.8.
My questions are, at this time:
1/ which card do you think is the best (rapidity, least latency, sound quality). Within a reasonable price range (200 to 300 $) for a home studio.

Mini Mac for DAW? Anyone do it yet?

I know there are a few here that say no-way, plus I have a AMD64 and AMD XP for Giga, EWQLSO, Nuendo, etc, so am set as far as power is concerned, but late last night I was looking through a few mags and still, they (vendors) push the iBook and Powerbook for portable DAW with something like Pro_tools LE Mbox, so my question is, really, how bad would a mini mac be?

Mac Mini Warnings

I have seen a lot of recent posts about people looking to the MacMini for audio production.

Does anyone realize that it comes with 256 mb of ram, and has to be upgraded by Apple to add more, which they charge a premium for?

Once you add everything to make the mac mini anything of a decent computer, you are well over $1000.

Firewire/Mac users-- What are you running thru?

I'm recording rock/pop music (focusing on drums) on my Powerbook thru a MOTU 896 and I'm looking to make some upgrades. pre's first, then possibly converters.

So who else is out there on a Mac recording 8 channels (or more) thru a Firewire interface. ? What are you using, what have you upgraded to/from and how is it all working for you?
