"Driving" mic preamp's and other gear - overload
Care to discuss?
I have some TLA gear that likes to be 'driven' I have the option on some Neve channels but haven't learned the pro's and con's of it yet.
Who drives their mic preamp's or any other gear for that matter (& reduces the ouput level elsewhere) to get the sound they like?
Helios channels DONT like it at all!
Your thoughts?

Hello everyone,
in the upcoming months ill offically be in the market for a nice mic preamp in the $1000+ range. I was wondering if anyone knew what type of mic preamp's the beatles might have used for their latter recordings ie. white album etc... and are there any similar clones out on the market?

Mic Pre's and why they differ
I'm not exactally a newbie to recording, but I am fairly new to Music recording. In other words my ears aren't fully qualified. What I'm wondering is what are the differences between the Mic pre's on say, a Yamaha 01v/02R and an API (Neve, Manley, etc.)pre. What should I be listening for, and how do you compare the two (multi-track mixes, single tracks, etc etc)? Thanks in advance.

Mic Preamps (Joemeek ?)
Hi
I use a Yamaha MD8 and the mic preamps are pretty bad. I was looking into mic preamps around the sub $300 price range. I was thinking of getting the Joemeek VC3Q which goes for $200. I'd like opinions of this unit and I'd also like to know if another mic preamp beats the Joemeek in quality in the $200-300 price range.
Thanks

Micpre for the Elux 251?
I will be getting an Elux 251 within a few days. I was wondering what micpre should I use to compliment this mic for recording female pop vocals. I currently use a Buzz Audio MA 2.2 and Crane Song Hedd 192 for my DAW. I've been considering either a Great River MP2 NV, GT Vipre, or Crane Song Flamingo. Thanks for the suggestions.

Mic Preamps split at patchbay?
I am setting up a new DAW system and the idea occured to me that I might split the (outboard) mic preamp outputs on the way into the DAW with the split going to the mix console for no latency monitoring while recording. My instincts tell me this is probably a bad idea as the split will degrade the signal on the way to the DAW, however I thought I would run it by the group for opinions.

Recording keyboards direct thru Mic Pre (Flamingo)
I have a CRane Song Flamingo on order for evaluation. If I like it, I intend to keep it. But I have a question...
Mic Preamps on MOTU 828
Hey- any word on the quality of the mic preamp amps on this baby? Thinking about buying a couple RODE NT1's or one NT2 (or maybe the NT 1000, or NTK) Or who knows what kind of Mic! I'm going down to Boston tomorrow to check out Mic's for myself. Can only read so many reviews before saying, Damnit!- you want something done, you gotta hear it for yourself! But back to the subject.
