Is a mixer really necessary?
I've been reading a bunch of these forums for a while now, trying to figure out how to get a little studio set up. I am completely new at this, but I'm really excited about giving it a try...the problem is that I have no idea what I'm doing.

Cue mixer (1604vlz) broke, need help quick
Session starting in a couple hours. But my monitor mixer 1604VLZpro has developed a nasty problem. It's as though there may be a cold solder or dirty connection somewhere across the mix L/R bus. The right channel goes away completely and left is very low in level. But a loud plosive sound though a mic will bring both channels back to full level.

Mixer questio...Again?
I may be getting a Mackie 1604 mixer. Should I put my Tascam 428 into one of the input channels or one of the subgroups? Also would a mixer like this allow me to add hardware effects to my VSTis without feedback?
Thanks

Simple line mixers other than Speck?
Still searching for the affordable durable quality mixer setup, needs to be muy portable. I need good quality mic preamps, which may not come with a mixer meeting the other criteria, so I'm looking at line mixers. The Speck looks like a class act, but way too many little awkward concentric knobs and cramped controls. Amazing routing possibilities.

Mixer Question
I have narrowed my choice in a mixer that will be used mostly for recording and mixing drums. I am interested in the Mackie 1604 ProVlz and the Allen and Heath Mixwizard, model WZ16:2DX. I do not care too much about features, just quality. Does the Mixwizard have better preamps and EQ than the Mackie? I'm concerned about headroom, being that I will be using this for drums.

Millenia Media Modular Mixer..mmmm?
This looks promising for portable live recording work. Any experiences or opinions? I'll be tracking a lot of acoustic and jazz sources. Is this a solid make of gear/ Will it last forever? Is the sound glorious?
I appreciate any input.
Ted

Hello, Has anyone heard of or used the Audient line of consoles? FWIW, they had a nice review in Mix Mag. Thanks Danny

Mixer for live recording
What would be a class mixer for live recording? Portability is key. I shopped all the budget mixers and ended up getting an Allen and Heath 14:6:2, just because I had to have a temporary solution, wanted to be able to skip the EQ, and wanted to save my money for something class. What is there that sounds great and is permanent?
