Terrible mix translation...beginner monitors?

I have been mixing on a decent Logitech 2.1 system. I know, I know that is not real practical, so I have decided to get a decent set of entry level studio monitors. I am only on a $300 dollar budget so my choices are very limited. Also, I do not have any local music shops so I cannot go demo speakers so I am really relying on online reviews and forums.

M-Audio BX5 monitors

I was just at Guitar Center playing those really nice Korg keyboards they have and all of their keyboards were plugged into M-Audio BX5 not the new BX5a, anyway they sounded great, were really loud, and best of all for me nice and small.

Does anyone know much about these monitors?

MONITORS QUESTION

hi all - basic question from a beginner:

- do i need an amp for good monitors or do i go for an Active pair?
- any tips for something in the sub £500 range? space is at a premium in my room FYI!

i will shortly be purchasing the Digi 003 rack and need monitors, would the 003 have an amp built in for monitoring?

Thanks, John

Monitors: price point, where to shop, how to shop

At some point in the not too distant future I want to upgrade from my current M-Audio BX8 monitors. I'd like to make a significant improvement rather than just an incremental upgrade. While you can buy monitors at just about any price you name, I assume that (as with most other equipment) there are certain price points at which manufacturers tend to cluster a general quality level.

mixing monitors

ok, upon doing some research I'm keen to get some good quality reference monitors... so I truely hear my mix... I work at a radio station we use yorkshire? anyone heard of these? they are hot mointors... anyway

my thinking is Maudio BX8's, KRK RP8's, Event ALP5 or Alesis M1's.
those are about in my price range.
