confused & MOTU 896 / soundcards

I'm planning on getting a mac with dp4 and I'm not sure does the MOTU 896 firewire act as a soundcard? if not what is its purpose and what is a great sound card to get for a mac. i want to use digital and analog in/outs.

Can you give me a good chain from say a keyboard or mic to the cpu.

like mic - mic preamp - a/d conv. -etc. also please refer me to a great mic preamp.

ibook and MOTU 896

hi,

i've got an ibook g3/600 with 640mb of ram that i've been using with a MOTU 896 firewire system. i've got the 30gb hard drive paritioned to 3 10gb sections. one for osx, one for os9 (and digital performer), and one for audio.

what else can i do to increase the track count i can process?

thanks!

tony

powerbookg4 / motu828 / propellerhead reason2.0

I am in the process of changing my studio over from simply analog to computerbased digital recording; using the powerbook G4. I am a newbie at this; I've decided to go with MOTU 828 Firewire recording system in combination with Propellerhead Reason 2.0. Just want to push a couple of mics and a guitar at this point. Any & all advise on this choice would be greatly appreciated.

MOTU HD 192 or 2408 mk3?

I'm thinking about a new sound card(i own a MOTU 2408 mk2). Now, i don't really know which one I should to buy between the MOTU 2408 mk3 or the new MOTU HD 192( why high definition, wath that mean?).. Someone told me, even if i work with 96hz with the HD192 the sound it's gonna be much better because the HD have better converters.
