The new age of music
Hi,
I dont know about you guys but I have been paying a tension to the Oink shutdown over the past few days. I know people who were users on that site and I have to tell you that they are the most dedicated fans off music I know off.
I want you to read this article and think outside the box.

Music Albums: 1966-Present (NO FLAMING!)
Probably two of my favortie recording styles of all time are Led Zeppelin's "II" and "IV" albums and "The End of Heartache" (Killswitch Engage) and "The Oncoming Storm" (Unearth), both produced by Adam Dutkiewicz. I have a few questions regarding them:

Mixing music for MP3
I was speaking to an engineer who briefly was talking about how much of a pain it is to mix for mp3, I didn't get a chance to further ask him about it, but it seems interesting enough, or at least to mix for streaming music (ie. Myspace, download.com etc).
Anyone delve into this relatively new art of mixing for the streaming mp3 format?

Music promotion links resource
I have started a link directory on my website aimed to give musicians some interesting resources that can be useful to them when it comes to promote and sell their music on the net. I will be updating it often. Here is the page:

Legal difference between Music and Lyrics?
When one person supplies the music (chords, beat, arrangement, instrumentation) and another person writes the lyrics and composes the vocal melody, who is considered the "writer" of the song?
Generally speaking, is the writer of the lyrics and vocal melody entitled to a greater share in performance royalties than the person who composed the music bed?

Software for making music for video + games (sequencers)
So heres the deal. I use Cubase Studio 4 for most of my recording as far as bands and live instruments. As far as midi instruments, making beats and making whole songs with virtual instruments, I've tried Reason and have an unregistered full version of Fruity Loops.

Studio musicians?
This may sound like a stupid question, but how does one go about becoming a studio/session musician? How do you break into the business?
Im a music major, and i think it would be pretty nice to be a studio musician. I just have no idea how to get started. Any info would be appreciated!

Sub $100 LDP from Musician's Friend
Hi, I'm new here and to recording. I'm looking for a sub $100 LDP Condenser mic from Musician's Friend (as not all companies will ship to me, and I know they will; I have an APO AE address).
I'd be using it for vocals mainly as I already have a Shure SM57 for instruments and a Sennheiser e902 for bass.
Also, what should I look for in mics?

How to start a music store?
I have been looking into purchasing an existing music store business in Illinois. However, the stores that are or have been available are not what I am looking for and would cost more to liquidate than to start off fresh.
Where do I start in opening a brand new music store for the sale of instruments and pro audio. The real estate is not a problem.
