There are tons of discussions about these stereo techniques (RTF, NOS, XY, Decca tree, Blumlein, AB) but I did not see much with regard to the mix once used them after recording.

Misa got a question. How far are the mics placed from the soundsource when using the ORTF technique?

I tested it and noticed some phase issues.

I have a wind band recording I am working on (70 piece). While it is quiet, the room isn't that great, so the "hall" isn't helping so much.

I'm preparing my mix's for the choirs I just finished recording.

2 DPA 4011A in ORTF
1 Royer SF24 in Blumlein
1 Audix M1280 micro condenser for added detail

Any suggestions of how you blend blumlein and ORTF?

John, did I hear you right... choose which of the two that sounds (fullest, widest most detailed) and add the other to taste?

I've discussed this more than once but wasn't sure what mics I'd settle on and know how the room would sound with people in it until yesterday.

Recording 14 choirs over 2 days. Largest choir will be 75 people.

What are the pros con between ORTF and XY?

• How do you know which config to use?
• Is one better for solo, quartet, choirs, orchestra?
• How does crossing XY change the imaging vs the opposite in ORTF?
• Does X have to be above Y (or vise versa) and why?
• Do you use the same Cardioids for XY or ORTF or a?

The ORTF stereo technique provides the recording with a wider stereo image than XY stereo and still preserves a reasonable amount of mono-information. Care must be taken when using this technique at larger distances, as the directional microphones exhibit proximity effect and will result in low frequency loss. You could add low frequency with an Equaliser to desired taste.

wonder if you could give some feedback on the below Choir recording. This was done during a rehearsal yesterday in a midsized stone church (Reverb around 2.5 sec) with a pair of MKH8040's in ORTF
The concert is on Sunday so hopefully with your input, I can improve on the sound some more!
