Ok Hi all I'm looking to get a new computer for audio recording and mixing. I know this topic has been done and i have read the posts and I'm still uncertain. First of all what places are there that will build and test your system for you that are actually reputable and not amazingly expensive? I know of mwave.com but are there more?

I am trying to get a portable live setup and I am considering using a 2U racked PC but it will require that I use a riser card for my soundcard. This sounds like a bad idea. Can someone explain what a riser card does and whether or not it effects performance?

Can someone explain the advantages and disadvantages of USB vs PCI sound cards, such as quality, speed latency, noise or anything else? Thanks in advance.

I have both cards installed under Windows XP in a 1.2Ghz 256MB P3 system. Using Sonar 2.0 I can record 8 simultaneous tracks on the PCI-822. I can also record 4 simultaneous tracks on the DSP Factory. But if I try to enable recording on a single channel from the "other" card the recording fails with dropout errors.

For the past few months, I've been trying to get my MOTU 24i core system (with a pci-324 card) to work with my Pentium 4 system with an Asus p4b266-c motherboard and DDR ram.

i am going to install my delta66 into the new asusp4b533. Does it make a difference which pci slot i use? This will be the only pci slot i'll be using.

I don't know much about IRQ's, and i want the absolute most performance i can get.
