Please advise on your opinions. on a budget of around $1,200, Do I buy a higher end 1 single channel pre-amp or would you opt for a 2 channel preamp for stereo recording for acoustic, electric guitars, vocals. What would you do? I have never done any stereo recording, only mono.

I'm trying to buy three pieces of analog gear to use in combination with my DAW.I'm looking for extreme analog color, character, personality, etc. I want to create a very unique analog signature sound. I'm looking at getting 3 pieces of gear: a dual channel compressor, a stereo EQ, and a 16 channel mixing board.

Hi, Im new to digital recording and have a simple question.

After connecting my Shure pg58 to a preamp, do i then use an XLR-1/4" cable to run it into my emu's 1/4" input or do i use a straight 1/4" - 1/4" connection to the soundcard, baring in mind i want it to be a balanced connection.

I'm looking to buy a preamp, gonna use it for recording electric/acoustic guitars, bass and some vocals. I've seen quite a few people recommend it and I was wondering, for $900 (which can be bought on ebay), is there a better preamp?
I'm interested in getting the best sound quality possible with roughly a grand. If there is anything better than this puppy please bring it up.

Hey guys, still debating which mic preamp to get. I only have a Allen and Heath board and a little Joemeek so I need one that will be the best all around going into Nuendo. I can get a new (open box) UA 610 for $999. Great deal but would this be a good starter pre. Would it build up too much if I use it for kick/snare (or room mics) then for bass, guitars, voxes etc?

Hey all, I have been looking recently to move up in the world from my little old MR-8 to a semi-pro portable studio. I will be acquiring my gear one or two pieces at a time until I have them all as it takes a while for the money to come in. I look to be able to record mainly drums, guitar, bass, vocals, and other acoustic instruments.

So... I am taking the plunge and buying one of your 2000e preamps from Chris (cue clapping, cheering, confetti). My question is this- I noticed the 4000e Chris lent me got pretty hot after being on for a couple of hours, so when I rack up the 2000e should I leave a space between it and my other gear? David

GC is blowin Oktava ML52's out at 200 bucks. Most people seem to be gawking at the 100 for MC012's, but I wanna know bout this one. Anyone used it? Is it worth having around cause it's a ribbon or is the money better in the bank saving for a royer? Does it have that ribbon "warmth" that is so often spoken of? I have a some condensers (rode, oktava, AT) and the regular dynamics.
