Recording bass

Hi. I was wondering if anyone new how to get that crisp smooth sound out of the bass when I record... I've got a few condenser mics and a few dynamic mics. Is there a general area of the speaker I should mic with certain mics? I'm just not getting the right sound. I know it's not much info. But could y'all help me anyway? Hoe do you record bass? Thanks and God Bless!

(Sometimes) Bad Signal-Noise Ratio when Recording Bass

So, its the weirdest thing, sometimes when I record bass I get a really clean signal, good sound, all sunny and clear...

...and then other times its like some evil beast inside my setup is hissing at me for not feeding it or something. Ok, its not THAT bad, but its still noticeably worse at some times than at others.

Recording Bass Direct: Any tips?

Hi there,

I'm recording (and playing) electric bass for an album I'm working on. I'm a guitar player and have never recorded electric bass before. I've had good success Micing an acoustic bass but this is all new to me.

I've asked around and the general consensus is that recording direct is the way to go with my set-up (not having a bass amp and living in a townhouse). :)

Recording upright bass, piano and acoustic guitar

I've been asked by a friend to record him for a college audition. He plays the upright bass, but also needs me to record piano and acoustic guitar.

My question is what microphone would be best for these instruments?

I have a Shure SM57...would that be sufficient? If yes, for which instrument or all of the instruments? If not, what mic would be best?
