References considered during RMS or Peak compression?
Could someone correct any of my thinking here, and answer my questions also? Please read carefully and make sure you
understand the question before responding. If I am not making myself clear, I can make a 5 minute video and post it on YouTube and post a link to the video with me demonstrating and asking the question.
using a reference CD
best advice for using a reference CD to acclimate my ears to monitors, room acoustics etc(ie, my favourite donnie osmond record or whatever)?. How do i trust the sound source? do i bounce down to a wav or mp3 and import the file into my daw? or will running my CD player as an input be accurate enough. this might be a dumb question but i've always wondered.

Reference recordings for acoustic guitar and vocals
I've been recording a few singer/songwriter types recently. Mostly steel string acoustic guitar and vocals. What do you use for reference recordings for this type of music when trying to listen to monitors and get a fix on the sound of a room? I've found that I don't consider some of my favorites in this genre terribly well recorded.
Your Favorite Reference CDs
RemyRAD, TVPostSound, and I were discussing reference CDs in another thread and (for one reason or another) I thought it may warrant it's own topic.
So, what CDs do you check your mix against? What great albums do you use to setup your mixing environment? What is your reference?

Affordable studio reference monitors?
Hey there,
so...I'm looking to purchase (on the cheap) a set of studio monitors. I've used the little Yamaha's in years past. But, I don't know the model #. They were really popular back in the early 90's (it seemed like every studio I went in had a set of these). What I want to know is, what is the best, affordable studio reference monitor for the buck?

mix references
I'm a newbie and have a dumb question. most of the commercial CDs are mastered already, so the mixed tracks don't sound like the mastered versions. so my question is, how do you if your mixes are ready for mastering? any good reference CDs for Mixing? or commercial CDs are also relavant in mixing?
milion thanks in advance.

What to use to test out reference monitors?
I'm interested in purchasing a pair of reference monitors (my budget is around $300-350 US). I'd like to know what are some good CDs or sounds to use to do a comparison test and what are some important things to listen for during the comparison.
btw, I'm considering between ESI nEar05 eXperience and KRK Rokit Powered 5 (RP5).
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Reference amp for my tannoy precision 8's
Hey guys,
I have recently brought a set of tannoy precision 8 passive monitors and I'm looking for a decent amp for them, the only one I can find stocked in stores around me is the Behringer a500, I don't know personally but somehow I don't think this amp would do the speakers justice... am I right?
Can anyone recommend some good brands I should be looking at?

new Yamaha hs80m studio reference monitors
so i went into guitar center looking for monitors. i was about to resign myself to ordering the Wharfedale 8.2's or buying the KRK Rokit 8's or the M-Audio BX8a monitors they had up there. Then i got a listen to the Yamaha hs80m speakers they had just gotten in.
Is it just me or are these things really friggin' good?
