Headroom Explained?
Can anybody example the concept of headroom and give any suggestions on to gaining some more headroom with my tracking chain?
My chain is:
RODE NT1000 --> PreSonus TubePRE --> dbx 266XL --> Mbox 2 --> Pro Tools LE (Windows Vista/ 2GB RAM)
Someone said that I was having some tracking issues and the lack of headroom was one of the issues.

The Room and Electric Guitar
Hey everyone, I was just wondering, when you're recording electric guitar and you're pointing say a 57 and another mic straight at your amp, and turning it up for that nice tube breakup, does the room really matter? Are they really sensitive enough to pick up room noise or ambiance at that volume level? This has something that I have always wondered.

Gain / Headroom etc
Hi there and thanks.
I am mixing in Cubase 5 and my rule of thumb was to never take the individual or group tracks above 0 even though the channel faders go to 6. The master fader I'd always have down at -5 to -10.

Dark room, bright mic?
Well, a few days into my latest foray into recording, and I cannot get a decent sound on acoustic guitar. I thought I was close for a while, what with a punchy sound, but it lacked in too many areas overall.

Tracking and monitoring in the same room- Problems ?
I am posting this here, in addition to the other forum on studio construction, since it has been there for some time without any replies. Maybe it will get better views here. To me, it seems like an important question to which there must be an answer.
Cubase LE4 Midi Editor - ran out of room
trying to self teach myself Cubase LE4. I just started MIDI sequencing today and could not figure out how to open the Midi Key Editor with a blank slate so I recorded some scrap MIDI then was able to open the editor. Problem now is that I am out of room, I hit the end to the right and I cannot figure out how to extend this window?

My m-powered Pro Tools has 12db before clipping on the faders, i know the HD version has like 20db or so. What does logic have?
Good monitors vs. room treatment
Hi!
I am an artist (...ducks chairs thrown at him...) trying to make a better recording in my home studio.
So, I am looking at purchasing some real monitors, albeit not terribly expensive ones.
But I also need room treatment.
