how do I treat this horrible audio signal?
I went to a show in New Orleans a couple of months ago. I went to record a band I admire very much (Deadboy and the Elephantmen).com I had my AKG C3000, and a video camara. Well on the way down there my mic got busted up with half of my luggage. So I just recorded the show with the camcorder's mic. Well I knew It wasn't going to be good, but I didnt know it would be this bad either.

Splitting a Signal
I am interested in recording 2 tracks at once from a guitar...one would be from a mic in front of a speaker, and one would just go direct into the system. (I am tracking into a computer using Cubase SX.)

How does this signal chain sound?
Question for you guys... I'm going to scrape together enough dough to build a top of the range vocal/instrument stereo channel. I've got about $15,000 to spend. I've researched a little, and here's what I'm thinking:
CRane Song Flamingo Pre
Avalon AD2055 EQ
2 CRane Song Trakkers
CRane Song HEDD

Test Signal Processing Power of your PC
Vincent Burel wrote a simple proggie to test your PC capabilities in real audio processing situations. Test results look a bit abstract to me, but if we post them here we can compare how our DAWs score. I'm particularly interested in ANUS DAW scores (PIV 1.6 FSB versus o/c).

Mid-Side manipulation of stereo signal...
1] In your mixer, pan the first piece (1&2) as a normal stereo track of music, hard left and right.
2] Next, pan the second track (3&4) dead center for both channels. This will make the track mono.

Vocal mic signal chain question.
Hi,
I am having trouble recording vocals, and I have some questions that somebody on this forum may be able to answer. I would appreciate any help.
Here is what I've been trying.
I have an AKG3000b to my preamp inserted thru my compressor(after the preamp), to my DAW.

Hum eliminators affect signal?
Anyone here ever used a hum eliminator in their critical signal chains? I'm using a RODE NTK mic going into an unbalanced preamp and I'm getting buzz like crazy. I put a ground lifter on the NTK's power supply and 50% went away. There is still an annoying amount left... And moving equipment doesn't really adjust it much.

Best Signal Flow For Mastering?
My thanks for the "welcome" and the "tips". The part I like about the "new" scene (for me anyway) is that since we all have to wear so many hats it's created the need for a more familial community. I used to just do my job and go home. Now I AM home... and it's all my job!
For those of you that may have missed my initial message here it is in it's lengthy entirety...
